The piece appropriates the slogan of the well-known company Microsoft, used starting in 1994 for its Windows 95 and 98 launches. These operating systems promised a qualitative leap in connectivity and advertised the ideal of symbolically traveling anywhere in the world through windows, right from the computer screen. A quarter of a century later, the message is recontextualized to reflect on today’s complex landscape, in which digital technologies are controversial, offering both possibilities and limitations. As Byung-Chul Han (2018) notes regarding the inhabitant of the hypertextual universe, the window symbolizes not only openness, but also protection and isolation from the outside world. This idea also connects with the pandemic situation (COVID-19, 2021), in which both social relations and mobility were heavily impacted and consequently further virtualized.
