#internetflags V.2
Public space installation & exhibition
Hand-painted flags on fabric. Dimensions variable
Curated by Arianna Esposito and Marco Tondello at Espai Souvenir, Barcelona
2020
#internetflags is a series of flags whose manual production began on March 14, 2020, in artist Irma Marco’s domestic space, as a reaction to the lockdown experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was born from the questioning of a digital communication model in which the constant display of intimacy on the Internet (extimacy) is increasingly present. The exhibition at Espai Souvenir is divided into two contexts: the interior space of the gallery and the exterior space, through the streets of the Gràcia neighborhood (Barcelona), where neighbors, friends and acquaintances have put the flags on their balconies and windows #internetflags.
Repeating the gesture that the artist made during quarantine, but from other balconies, was intended to present the message to other horizons, other windows, other readers. A personal piece of work that has become participatory. By doing this, leaving the gallery has meant entering the city.
